Reflexology

The Chinese are said to have used an early form of reflexology more than 5,000 years ago. There has also been evidence that the Egyptians used a form of foot massage, indicating that working on the feet is an ancient practice used in many cultures.

Modern reflexology where the feet are divided into zones corresponding to areas of the body is used at Airtherapies. This method of reflexology was developed by Eunice D. Ingham in the 1930's and is now a popular complementary therapy.

Reflexology is often used alongside conventional care in hospices, hospitals and other healthcare settings.

What to expect from a reflexology treatment

A reflexology treatment is usually carried out on the feet as this area is deemed more sensitive. Your treatment can lasts between 45 - 60 minutes. Therefore you only need to remove your shoes and socks and can remain fully clothed.

You will be asked to lie on a reclining chair or a treatment couch for the therapy. Your feet will be examined for any contraindications and then cleansed before the treatment begins. A variety of reflexology techniques will then be used, to suit your individual needs that have been outlined in your consultation.

At airtherapies we specialise in using advanced reflexology techniques as our practitioner is trained to level 5 standard. Which ensures that you are receiving the highest up to date form of techniques available. We also specialise in fertility, pregnancy and birth reflexology please see our fertility and pregnancy page for more details of these specific treatments.

Reflexology can be carried out on the ears and hands. which is an alternative option of treatment if you do not like having your feet touched.
